Prior to joining the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Notre Dame, Prof. Patrick Brewick served as a research scientist at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) where he worked in the Materials Science & Technology Division. In addition to leading the Brewick Group’s research, he is an instructor of these courses:
• Civil Engineering Materials,
• Civil Engineering Materials Lab, and
• Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering.
Brewick received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Notre Dame, his master’s degree and Ph.D. in civil engineering and engineering mechanics from Columbia University. (dissertation topic: “Improving the Quantification and Estimation of Damping for Bridges under Traffic Loading.”) He then served as a Viterbi Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Southern California prior to joining NRL.
He is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and its Engineering Mechanics Institute, where committee work has included the Dynamics Committee, the Probabilistic Methods Committee, and the Ship Structures Committee on Digital Twin Methodologies. He is also an active leader at Notre Dame, including work with his department’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and the Materials Science and Engineering Academic Committee.
Outside of the laboratory, Prof. Brewick enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 children, hiking, bird-watching, and going on long bike rides.
